2002 Dodge Durango Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Functioning of a Dimmer Switch in a 2002 Dodge Durango?
A: Before you work on the combination switch, first remove and isolate the negative battery terminal and wait for two minutes so the air bag capacitor doesn't accidentally fire up when you work on it. Remove the steering column opening cover and take off the tilt steering column knob first. Then, taking the outboard screws out, open the snap features and release them and remove the upper shroud. After that, unscrew the bottom shroud that keeps the lower steering column locked and pull it out. Remove the connector from the instrument panel's electrical system, unscrew the multi-function switch from its home and take it out. Mount the multi-function switch to the housing and attach it with screws of 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Reattach the wiring harness to the instrument panel connector, then fit the lower shroud onto the steering column and put in the center screw, torquing it to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Then, place the upper shroud and make sure the snap features fit evenly, after which press your hands down gently to hold them in place. Attach the screws at the joint of the upper shroud and lower shroud using 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). After that, attach the tilt column knob and then cover the opening of the steering column. Lastly, put the negative battery cable into its place and attach it.
