2002 Dodge Neon Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain an Air Bag in Your Seat on 2002 Dodge Neon?
A: Before servicing the seat air bag, make sure the left front seat is all the way forward and that the hood is open. First, unplug the negative cable from the battery and next remove your vehicle's front seat. Grasp the back panel at the top by its corners and pull slightly rearward to come off, then remove the two screws attached at the bottom. Take off the seat back trim cover J-strap, then pull the yellow locking tab down on the seat air bag connector and push its side retaining tabs in as you gently pull the connector from the module. After removing the seat air bag retaining nuts, use your hand to lift over the air bag side of the trim cover to allow you more space for removing the air bag. Remove the studs attaching the seat air bag to the nylon sleeve without damaging the sleeve as you slide the air bag free. Until the mounting studs line up with the holes, slide the seat air bag inside the nylon sleeve and then install the retaining nuts with a torque of 10.7 Nm (94.7 in. lbs.). Set the cover and cushion for the upper seat back on top of the frame, attach the air bag connector and be sure the yellow tab to holds them together is locked down. After that, put in the seat back trim covers J-straps and then fit the plastic back panel. Examine all the clips and brackets to check for damage and correct or replace them as needed. Secure the back panel to the seat back frame, press the upper clips firmly and put in the two lower screws, tightened to 2 Nm (8.9 in. lbs.). Lastly, put the front seat back into the car, make certain the plastic back panel is securely held, close the hood and test all systems, but do not attach battery negative cable until the air bag system is finished testing.
