Because the driver air bag system could contain irritants, people should always put on rubber gloves, eye protection and a long-sleeved shirt before taking off a deployed driver air bag. First, unconnect the negative
Battery Cable from the engine block. After that, detach the speed control switches or their covers from the
Steering Wheel armature and unplug the cables. Lift the driver air bag after taking out the bolts at the steering wheel's sides and disconnecting the two air bag squib and horn wires before you take it out. Replacing a driver air bag always requires replacing the
Clock Spring as well. To install the squib wire, push it straight against the air bag connector until it snaps in firmly. After that, place the horn wire and tighten the bolts to 10 to 11 Nm (90 to 100 in. lbs.) of torque. Wrap the covers on the steering wheel armature or attach the wire connectors to the speed control switches and install the switches, using 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) torque to secure the fastener. Don't attach the battery negative cable until after the air bag system is checked and cleared.
