2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Air bag Control Module service should begin by turning off the air bag system by unplugging the battery cable; this step should be followed by a two-minute delay so the system's capacitor can be emptied. You need to watch out for the air bag Control Module because the impact sensor is inside; anything that strikes or slams the module will require a new unit and hitting or kicking it risks the need for replacement. To remove the console, if you have a manual car, take it out from the center; for an automatic, loosen two screws under the trim cover on the ACM and pull it away. Loose up the screws mounting the instrument panel center support bracket to the ACM bracket and do not remove them, then remove the two nuts fixing the lower instrument panel support to the center support bracket. Pull the bracket down the ACM after removing the retainer on the wire harness in the instrument panel. Slide the red Connector Position Assurance lock over, push down the latch tab and remove the connector from the instrument panel wire harness. Whenever you have to replace an ACM, make sure to get a new bracket with it. Remove the screws from the ACM bracket on the floor panel transmission tunnel and then lift out the whole unit of the ACM, ACM mounting bracket and instrument panel center support bracket. Put the ACM, mounting bracket and instrument panel center support bracket on the floor panel transmission tunnel, checking that the arrow on the ACM label is pointing forward. Using a torque wrench, fasten the four screws on the bracket to the tunnel to reach 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). Secure the wire harness connector from the instrument panel to the ACM, making sure both latches are closed. Put the bracket up and connect it to the lower panel support piece with nuts tightened to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). Screw the retainer for the wire harness onto the wire harness gland until tight and then tighten the screws that hold the bracket to the ACM mounting bracket to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). For vehicles with an automatic transmission, use two screws to hold and secure the ACM trim cover at 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.,) and for manual vehicles, fit the center floor console into its original location. Don't connect the negative cable to the battery until you've finished the air bag system verification test following work on any air bag parts.
