2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Brake Caliper Assembled on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Assembling the brake caliper requires you to first clean and dry the space to keep the caliper seals from getting ruined by dirt, oil and solvents. First, coat the pistons, their seals and bores with some clean, new brake fluid. Place new piston seals in the caliper bores so they are fully seated straight, not twisted. Use a light amount of silicone grease on the lip of the boot, then slide the boot on the piston and get the boot lip wedged into the groove at the top. Start by stretching the boot to the rear to get rid of folds and then push it forward until the folds lock in. Put the piston into the relative caliper bore and either push it down by hand or use the end of a hammer. Use handle C-4171 and installer C-4340 or C-3716-A to properly place the dust boot in the caliper for HD 56 mm or LD 54 mm models. After putting in the second piston and dust boot, grease the Mopar brake bearing points, boot seals and caliper bores only with Mopar brake grease or Dow Corning 807 grease, because other alternatives might harm the boots. Center the boot seals into the caliper seal bores, install the mounting bolt bushings onto the seals and match the seal lip with the bushing to each end. Next, put the bleed screw onto the caliper's nipple.
