2002 Jeep Liberty Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing or fixing the power steering pump, switch off the engine and check the fluid reservoir to stay away from moving tools. Do not use automatic transmission fluid and always make sure you avoid overfilling. Before you look at the fluid level, ensure the filler cap is clean and that the level reads COLD if you're at normal temperature. Make sure the pump fluid in the reservoir reaches the required level and sit it undisturbed for at least two minutes. Lift the front of the car off the ground and gently turn the steering wheel right and left at least 20 times, each time contacting the wheel stops. Check the level and add a little more if the level is too low. Drop the vehicle close to the ground, start the engine and gently turn the steering wheel from one lock to the next. Shut off the engine and look at the fluid to see if the level requires any addition. Grinding with bubble lube for a long span of time can result in adjustment pump damage. Should the antifreeze bubble or appear cloudy, leave the car to stand for a little while, add more fluid and check the level after the engine has run.
