2002 Jeep Liberty Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Steering Shaft on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: For intermediate steering shaft service or repair, first, cut off negative power to the battery, get rid of the knee blocker cover and remove the knee. Set the tires and steering wheel forward, then unlock them. After that, take out the pinch bolt at the bottom of the column and lower the steering shaft. Push in on all the tangs to separate the intermediate shaft seal from the panel and then pull away the center support bearing bracket from the shock tower mount. Following this, remove the pinch bolt that holds the coupler to the steering gear, disconnect the coupler and take out the intermediate shaft after that. Chec For the installation process, put the middle bracket on the steering column shaft again if you've taken it apart and then set the middle shaft back into the car. Connect the coupler from the steering gear and tighten it with the lower coupler pinch bolt, making sure the tightness is 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). Then, fit the center support bearing bracket to the holes in the shock tower and after that, put the intermediate shaft seal in place with its four tangs securely around the panel. Place the steering coupler shaft back onto the column and hold it with the lower column pinch bolt, tightening it to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). Turn the steering wheel to unlock it, put in the knee blocker cover and knee blocker and lastly connect the negative cable to the battery.
