2002 Jeep Liberty Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Power Steering Hose on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing or repairing power steering lines and hoses, drain the power steering fluid from the tank. For the pressure hose, take out the radiator crossmember, fan, fan shroud and the serpentine belt. Next, unhook the pressure hose from the pump, take out the electrical connector on the pressure switch and remove the hose from the gear. Pull out the pressure hose mounting bracket bolts behind the headlamp area, then remove the hose and move the power steering pressure switch if it is necessary. After using the fluid siphon on the return hose from the gear to the cooler, then remove the radiator crossmember, fan, fan shroud and the serpentine belt. Unplug the return hose from the gear and from the rear of the A/C cooler and then remove the four bolts supporting the front mounting bracket. After that, get rid of the fluid in the return hose by siphoning, disconnect the hose from both the pump reservoir and cooler and then take it out of your vehicle. From the vehicle, connect the pressure hose, secure the mounting bracket bolts behind the headlamp assembly to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) and then turn the hose connections to the gear and the pump at 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Replace the serpentine belt, fan shroud, fan and crossmember for the radiator and add some power steering fluid. To install the return hose, run it from the gear into the vehicle, secure the mounting bracket bolts onto the front cradle, connect it at both the cooler and gear at 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), cover it with the serpentine belt, fan shroud and fan and then place the radiator crossmember, all followed by refilling the power steering fluid. After that, put the return hose from the reservoir into the vehicle, link it to both the reservoir and the cooler and top off with power steering fluid.
