2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Damaged or Leaking A/C Condenser on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Installed in front of the engine radiator, the A/C condenser is not designed for service and needs replacement if it is leaking or damaged. First, a recovery machine for R-134a refrigerant must remove the refrigerant from the system prior to removal. Remove the battery support strut in the first stage and then unhook the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove the upper radiator mounts and unbolt the condenser to radiator mounting screws afterward. Stand the radiator up again and remove the condenser from the bottom. After tilting the radiator back, install the new condenser, secure it with the mounting screws and upper radiator brackets and keep it in position. Reconnect the refrigerant tubes to the condenser and then place the support strut for the battery back in place. Apply torque to the condenser refrigerant lines at 5 Nm (45 in. lbs) and next remove and charge the A/C system.
