2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Evaporator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace the Evaporator on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Just like on LHD vehicles, you should begin the replacement process by draining the cooling system and moving the negative terminal on the battery. Clear the refrigerant from the system and then take out the instrument panel. Remove the cooling lines from the evaporator and take out the heater core coolant hoses from the heater core. Remove all retaining fasteners from the A/C-Heater housing found in the engine compartment, plus the drain tube and free the defroster duct from the A/C-Heater housing. After removing the retaining bolts, disconnect the electrical connectors and then remove the housing from the vehicle, placing it on a bench. Lift off the cover of the heater core, plus the nearby cold-water pipes and disassemble the A/C-Heater housing to remove the evaporator coil. To install the evaporator coil, slot it into the A/C-Heater housing and pay attention to how all the seals are fitted, then fit the housing parts back together. Put the housing back into the vehicle and use retained bolts that are tightened to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.). Also, attach the electrical connectors. Link the defroster duct and the drain tube to each other with their retaining clip and then seal the A/C-Heater housing with fasteners torqued to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.). Attach the heater core coolant supply hoses and refrigerant lines, checking that they hold sealing O-rings in good condition. Attach the instrument panel, drain the refrigerant system, fill it again, start the car and complete by plugging in the negative battery cable.
