2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Heater Core in a Right-Hand Drive on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before removing the heater core, you should take away the negative battery cable and drain the cooling fluid. After that, remove the refrigerant from the system. Take out the instrument panel, follow by removing the refrigerant lines from the evaporator core and the heater coolant supply hoses. Open the engine compartment, remove the retaining screws on the A/C-Heater housing, pull the spring clip and withdraw the drain tube from the housing nipple. In the vehicle, begin with removing the defroster duct from the A/C-Heater housing and from the body, then take out the A/C-Heater housing retaining bolts and electrical connectors. Remove the A/C-Heater housing from the inside and set it on a level bench so that you can get to the heater core. Put the new heater core in the A/C-Heater housing, assemble it again and fit it back into the vehicle, using retaining bolts that have been torqued to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.). Secure the defroster duct, join the electrical connectors and slide in the A/C-Heater housing drain tube with its clip. Connect the A/C-Heater housing retaining fasteners and tighten them to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.), then attach the heater core's coolant supply hoses. Remember to check and lubricate the refrigerant line sealing O-rings. Reconnect the refrigerant lines, the instrument panel, drain off all remaining refrigerant, add the refrigerant mixture, top up the cooling system and finally attach the negative battery cable.
