2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The initial task for the accumulator HVAC is to withdraw all the refrigerant and disconnect the negative battery cable. Should this step be possible, move the vehicle speed control servo to improve access to the accumulator. Take out the low pressure clutch cycling switch from the accumulator and then remove the two screws attaching the refrigerant line fittings from the accumulator to the suction and liquid line assembly. Remove the rubber seal from the O-rings of the refrigerant line fittings and use plugs or tape to cover the opened accumulator connector block ports and the fittings. Following this, break the screw that holds the accumulator mounting bracket to the right side rail and get the accumulator out of the engine. When installing, set the new accumulator where it should go in the engine compartment and close it with the mounting bracket screw tightened to 100 in. lbs. With the tape or plugs removed from the ports and lines, apply a small amount of refrigerant oil to new O-rings and put them on the refrigerant fittings, using only those O-rings made for R-134a and the recommended oil for the vehicle's compressor. Put back the fittings for the refrigerant lines to the accumulator connector block and tighten them with screws at 20 in. lbs. Mount the low pressure clutch cycling switch and, where necessary, reinstall the vehicle speed control servo. Attach the negative battery cable once more, remove all the refrigerant from the system and if you replaced the accumulator, add 89 milliliters (3 fluid ounces) of recommended refrigerant oil before charging.
