2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Open the negative battery connection, then evacuate the refrigerant from the refrigerant system to remove the condenser. Next, remove the strut that supports the battery and take off the liquid line connection from the condenser outlet port, throwing away the sealing item from the connection. Tape or plug the holes in the liquid line and condenser outlet before releasing and throwing away the seal on the discharge line fitting. Again, put some tape or a plug over the opened discharge line fitting and the condenser inlet port. Take the mounts off from the upper radiator, plus the screws that hold the condenser in place. Then, tilt the radiator back so you can remove the condenser from the vehicle. During installation, if the condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system, but use the oil specifically recommended for the compressor. Fit the condenser into the car as you tilt the radiator backward, then secure the condenser with 2 Nm (17 in. lbs. of torque) and install the top radiator mounts. Tape or plug removal should be done from the condenser inlet port as well as the discharge line fitting. With clean refrigerant oil, lubricate a fresh rubber O-ring seal and install it on the discharge fitting prior to connecting the fitting to the condenser inlet again. Tighten the nut on the discharge line fitting to 5 Nm/45 in. lbs. Take off the tape or plug from the condenser outlet port and the liquid line fitting, apply a smear of clean refrigerant oil to a new rubber O-ring and fit it into the liquid line fitting before you put it back in the condenser outlet port. After tightening the nut attaching the liquid line fitting to the condenser outlet port to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.), put the battery support strut in place. However, before driving, empty the refrigerant, fill up your A/C again and link the battery negative cable.
