2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Place the air cleaner housing to the side by first disconnecting it from its clips. After disconnecting the battery negative cable, unscrew the silencer pad under the knee blocker and bring down the blocker to reach the switch. Turn the switch counterclockwise more than 30 degrees and pull it out of its bracket, disconnect the wiring connector and discard the old switch. Buy a new brake lamp switch with the adjustment lever 45° away from the wiring connector; if the lever is parallel, the switch is set already and is no good. Link the wire harness to the fresh switch, put it on the bracket so the index tab matches the notch and spin it about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it down. With the brake pedal pressed down completely, move the lever on the switch from 45°. Stick the knee pad and silencer to your box again, fasten the negative battery terminal and secure the air cleaner cover. Then, examine the stop lamps to know if they function as they should and perform a road test to find out the brake system, especially the ABS, as well as the speed control are operating as required.
