2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You should begin by opening the air cleaner cover and putting it aside. First, remove the negative cable from its post, then lift the silencer pad out and move the knee blocker beneath the steering column down. Turn the brake lamp switch counterclockwise approximately 30 degrees to remove it from the bracket and pull it back, then disconnect the harness connector and throw away the used switch because it can't be reused. Get a new brake lamp switch, set the adjustment lever to a 45° angle away from its wiring connector; if it is parallel, the switch is already set and should not be used. Wire the switch into the harness, then fix it in its bracket by placing the index tab in the notch and turning it clockwise about 30 degrees to lock. When the brake pedal is not pressed and the adjustment lever is loose, turn the adjustment lever clockwise until it connects with the wiring connector. Hook up the knee blocker and the silencer pad again, attach the negative battery terminal and then set the air cleaner back into place. In the next step, test the stop lamps and then check that the brakes, ABS and speed controller are working as they should during a test drive.
