2003 Dodge Dakota Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Brake Caliper on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: To work on the rear brake caliper, place a prop rod on the brake pedal to hold pressure and then get the vehicle in the air. Open the wheel and tire and remove a bit of fluid from the master cylinder brake reservoir with a suction gun. After loosening the brake hose banjo bolt, remove the bolts holding the caliper mounting slide and finally detach the caliper. When installing, if the pads were taken off, put them back on, then lubricate the anti-rattle clips for your disc brake pads. Connect the caliper to the brake caliper adapter, cover the bolts holding the caliper mounting slide pin in silicone grease and repeat the tightening process for 25Nm (19 ft. lbs). After removing the brake hose banjo bolt, put it back on the brake hose, then fix the hose to the brake caliper with new seal washers. Hand-tighten the fitting bolt to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.), while confirming the hose is straight and without any twists. Once you take out the prop rod, bleed the brake system at the base, reinstall the wheel and tire assemblies, take the supports off and lower the vehicle. Check the positive pedal on your vehicle before you move it.
