2004 Dodge Dakota Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Brake Caliper on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: Wash the surface of the master cylinder reservoir and its filler caps to start. Then, take out the filler cap and remove 1/4 of the fluid from the reservoir with a clean suction instrument. Lift the car, then come from underneath and remove the front wheel and tire assemblies. To hold the caliper piston down into its bore, make sure it is not bent and clamp the frame to the rear of the caliper, with the screw fitting next to the brake pad. Unplug the brake hose from the caliper and toss away any hose fitting washers that seem worn or damaged. After that, disconnect the slide pin bolts to take the caliper out of the caliper adapter. The first thing to do during installation is to fit the brake pads into the caliper so they are fully against the slide surfaces of the ledges in the caliper adapter. After that, attach the brake caliper to the caliper adapter and tighten the caliper slide pin bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), starting the slide pins by hand. Affix the brake hose to the caliper with fresh seal washers fitted, tighten its bolt to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) after that and be careful not to twist or kink the brake hose before doing so. Bleed the brakes on the suspension you just reinstalled, put the wheel assemblies back on, remove the supports and then lower the car. Sit the brake shoes by pressing on the brake pedal, add brake fluid to the reservoir and check that the pedal is firm before you move the vehicle.
