2003 Dodge Durango Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Before servicing the oil pan, drain the cooling system, pull off the upper fan shroud, throttle body resonator, air inlet hose and finally the intake manifold. Hang the vehicle on a lift and take off the exhaust pipe at the manifolds. After removing the dust cover following the manual's instructions, drain the engine oil and pull out the oil filter. Find a jack that fits under the engine and unbolt both side engine mount bolts. Lift the engine to give room for the oil pan, being careful not to press on the oil pan or gasket, because they are connected to the engine. Loose the oil pan from the motor by undoing the bolt bolts, then lift it away with and without the oil pump pickup tube and the old gasket. For installation, wipe off the mating area between the bedplate and oil pan, fit the new oil pan gasket, pickup tube with a new O-ring and install each mounting bolt and nut finger-tight. Then, tighten the bolts and nuts until they reach 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Set the oil pan into place and fasten its mounting bolts using 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) torque in the proper order. Remove the planks from the engine and then lower it to its normal position. After that, use a ratchet to tighten the engine mount through bolts on both sides to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Get rid of the jack, add the oil filter and then fit the structural dust cover and exhaust pipe onto your exhaust manifolds. After you have lowered the car, put on the intake manifold, throttle body resonator, air inlet hose and lastly the upper fan shroud. Place fluids in the cooling system and engine oil and then start up the engine to look for any leaks.
