2003 Dodge Neon Rod Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rod Bearing on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Measure how big or small the connecting rod bearing is by using Plastigage, but be sure not to rotate the crankshaft as you apply it or else it will get mixed up. Don't use used bolts on the rod bearings; always lubricate the threads of new bolts with engine oil before putting them in place. Be sure to put every bolt on finger tight, then rotate them alternately to build the cap. Push the bolts into the range of 27 Nm, then turn them an extra 1/4 turn; it's best not to use a torque wrench during this step. Make sure the connecting rod side clearance is correct by using a feeler gauge.
