2003 Dodge Neon Timing Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Belt with a Hydraulic Tensioner on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Begin the service of the timing belt by first taking off the front timing belt cover. Rotate the engine through the crankshaft until the respective timing marks on both the camshaft and crankshaft are aligned, then proceed to the removal of the timing belt. Turn the crankshaft until the timing marks match at both the camshaft and the crankshaft. Next, loosen the timing belt tensioner fasteners, but be sure not to loosen, tighten or remove the tensioner pivot bolt. Remove the timing belt slowly, being sure not to shift the camshaft once it has been uninstalled, to prevent damaging the valve components. Refer to the pertinent instructions for the removal of the timing belt tensioner pulley assembly.
