2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing the side impact sensor, turn the supplemental restraint system off by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable and wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. The side impact sensor controls the side curtain air bag and should not be struck or dropped, as any collision may force you to throw the sensor out and purchase a new one. To start, adjust the front seat right to the limit and take off the trim on the lower right or left B-pillar. Start by pulling out the overlay wire harness connector from the sensor on the B-pillar and then unscrew the two screws around the side impact sensor. The new or reinstalled side impact sensor goes onto the B-pillar and should be securely attached using two screws, tightened to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Replace the air bag cover, attach the B-pillar trim and do not attach the battery at this point until all servicing of the supplemental restraint system is completed.
