2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before working on the side impact sensor, first take out the battery negative cable and let the system capacitor discharge for two minutes. Disconnect the air bag overlay wire harness from the sensor connector next to the lower right or left B-pillar and remove the trim. Unscrew the side impact sensor from the B-pillar with the two screws, then remove the sensor. During installation, affix the new side impact sensor onto the B-pillar using two screws that you need to tighten to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Reconnect the wire harness from the air bag overlay to its connector and put the trim back onto the lower right or left B-pillar. You must not touch the battery's negative cable until the supplemental restraint system examination procedure is completed once any component of the supplemental restraint system has been serviced. Always treat the side impact sensor cautiously, because if you drop it, it might become damaged and you will have to fit a new sensor to guarantee proper air bag operation.
