2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee TPMS Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a TPMS Sensor on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing or repairing the tire pressure sensor/transmitter, detach the tire/wheel from the vehicle, avoiding any damage to the wheel finish as you take off the stick-on weights. Make sure you keep the valve stem cap with the O-ring seal so you can re-use it and don't change it with a standard cap. When replacing the cap, be sure to insert the original nickel plated brass aluminum valve stem core back into the valve to stop corrosion. Use a handy valve core remover to empty the valve stem and let the tire lose all its air. Drop the pressure transmitter into the tire through the valve stem before you break the bead and take off the tire to protect the pressure transducer. Take off the nut that joins the valve stem of the pressure sensor/transmitter to the wheel and pop the sensor/transmitter into the tire. Practice the tire changer's procedure to safely remove both the upper and bottom beads from the tire without hurting the wheel. Remove the upper bead completely and bring it apart, then pull the tire to take it out of the tire. Before installing, verify the O-ring at the bottom of the valve stem for any problems and replace it when needed. Also make certain the wheel's sealing area is clean. Secure the tire pressure sensor/transmitter on top of a wheel and tighten its nut to 7 Nm (64 inch lbs.), holding the transmitter so it doesn't spin. Put the upper bead of the tire on the wheel, attach the original or a matching valve cap to the stem and use a soap solution to locate any air leaks. Correctly use weights when balanced, following the procedure for each type of weight on the flange, after which install the tires onto the vehicle. Check that the installation code from the new sensor has been set up on the TPM module and that all the preset tire pressure values are stored in the receiver's memory.
