2003 Jeep Liberty Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Ball Joint in the Front Suspension on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing or repairing the ball joint in the front suspension, remove the tire and wheel assembly and then the brake caliper and rotor. Untie the rod from the steering knuckle and then take out the knuckle. If the car comes with a halfshaft, remove it by moving it to the side with support, out of the way. In order to keep the tools lasting for longer and to make sure operation is smooth when using, tension lubrication is necessary for the threaded sections. Lock the steering knuckle in a vise and push the ball joint out of it with tools C-4212-F (PRESS), 8859-2 (RECEIVER) and 8859-1 (DRIVER). Cover the ball joint boot with the plastic shipping cover, then fit the ball joint into the knuckle with help from tools C-4212-F (press), 8859-3 (driver) and 6761 (receiver). After you attach the ball joint, add the boot on top, remove the halfshaft support if it's present and then put on the steering knuckle. After that, join the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and nut the halfshaft while applying 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) of torque. Reinstall the brake caliper and rotor after that and finally put on the tire and wheel. At last, make sure the vehicle's ride height is correct and do a wheel alignment.
