2003 Jeep Liberty Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Brake Caliper on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the rear brake caliper, start by installing a prop rod on the brake pedal, keeping the brake system under pressure. After that, lift and support the vehicle. Wheels and tires must be removed and the brake hose banjo bolt comes out if the caliper is the only element being replaced. After that, unbolt and remove the caliper from the removal slide pin bolt. Should the brake pads be removed, place them back in and grease the anti-rattle clips on the disc brake pads before installation. Put the caliper on the caliper adapter, grease the bolts on the caliper mounting slide and tighten them to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). If you removed the brake hose banjo bolt, replace it and connect the brake hose to the caliper with new washer rings, making sure the fitting bolts reach 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Once you remove the prop rod, bleed the brakes under the base, assemble the wheels and tires and take the support stands away before lowing your vehicle. Always make sure the brake is working properly before you begin to drive.
