2003 Jeep Liberty Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Inspect and Replace Seat Belt Components During and After Service on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: Any time after a seat belt service, you should check all belts, buckles, mounting components and retractors for correct installation, function and any damage. Substitute any belt that has been cut, frayed or torn, repair any twisted belt, fix any loose clips and change out any belt with a damaged buckle or retractor, as well as any belt with an out-of-shape latch or anchor plate. Replace any damaged seat belt component with the matching one listed in the Mopar Parts Catalog-don't try to repair them. Remove the right center seat belt buckle unit from the floor panel, then release and fold the right rear seat back forward and raise the cargo area carpet from the seat back panel to take out the rear seat belt and retractor. Unscrew the rear center seat belt lower anchor from the floor, then free the anchor from the stud on the rear floor. Take out the two screws fixing the belt web guide to the top of the seat back panel on the right rear seat and then remove that same panel. Lift the trim from the back of the right rear seat, pass the seat belt lower anchor and guide under the top of the seat and take the seat back latch cable fitting off from its support on the retractor. Detach the screw on the retractor that fastens it to the rear seat back panel and get out the rear center seat belt unit and retractor together. For mounting, set the rear center seat belt and retractor on the seat back panel, tighten the screw of the retractor to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) into the rear seat back and attach the cable at the back latch support. Slide the rear seat belt lower anchor and belt web guide into the top of the seat back panel, put the trim back on the right rear seat back and fasten the two screws attaching the belt web guide to the top panel to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Place the right rear seat back panel back in the car, line up the rear center seat belt lower anchor to the floor panel's stud and attach and tighten the screw holding it to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Lay the cargo area carpet at the base of the seat back panel, position the right rear seat back straight up and attach the right center seat belt buckle unit back to the floor panel.
