2004 Jeep Liberty Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Rear Center Seat Belt and Retractor on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step to servicing the rear center seat belt and retractor is to examine all parts, put in any necessary replacements and secure them firmly. Pull out the right center seat belt buckle unit, unhook and fold back the right rear seat and divide the cargo area carpet from the bottom of the seat back panel. Unscrew the anchor bolt securing the rear center seat belt, pull back the anchor and separate it from the stud where it was fixed to the floor. Undo the screws that lock the belt web guide to the top of the rear seat back panel and then take out the back seat panel. Take out the trim from the right rear seat back and push the rear seat belt area strap and belt web guide through the top area of the seat back. Take the seat back latch cable out of the cable support on the retractor. After that, remove the screw holding the retractor to the back seat and take away the rear center seat belt and attached retractor. During installation, slide the rear center seat belt retractor assembly onto the seat back panel, secure the screw to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) and fit the latch cable onto the cable support. Put the rear seat belt lower anchor and belt web guide through the top of the seat back panel, put the trim back in place and secure the belt web guide with two screws that are tightened to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Set the rear seat back panel back in place, attach the rear center seat belt lower anchor to the stud and tighten the screw so it reaches 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Lastly, put back the cargo area carpet, raise the right rear seat back to its normal spot and insert the right center seat belt buckle unit onto the floor panel.
