2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before replacing the A/C discharge line, take off and isolate the negative battery cable and gather the refrigerant from inside the car. Remove the bolt that holds the discharge line fitting to the top of the compressor, then disconnect the fitting from the compressor's discharge port and throw away the seal. Plug or tape up the hose fittings on the compressor's discharge port. Hang the car from the hoist, take out the nut fastening the discharge line fitting and separate the line from the inlet on the condenser. Once done, throw away the seal and cover or tape up all openings afterward. During installation, mount the discharge line in the engine compartment, pull away the tape or plugs from both the discharge line fitting and the condenser inlet, grease a new rubber O-ring with clean refrigerant oil and slide it onto the discharge line fitting before securing it to the condenser. With the nut fastened to it, give the fitting a twist tightening it to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.), before lowering the car onto the ground. Remove the tape or plugs from the compressor discharge port and the discharge line fitting, grease a fresh new rubber O-ring and put it over the discharge line fitting before you attach this end to the compressor discharge port. Secure the bolt on the discharge line fitting to the compressor and tighten it to 12.2 N-m (108 in. lbs.). Lastly, empty the refrigerant and let it recharge again, before reconnecting the negative battery cable.
