2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Compressor Cut-Out Switches Parts and Q&A
Q: How Do A/C Compressor Cut-Out Switches Relate to High Pressure Sensor Service and Repair on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing or repairing the high pressure sensor/switch, drain the refrigerant and disconnect the negative lead from the battery. Lift and hold the car well, then uncouple the engine wire harness connector from the A/C high pressure switch attached to the A/C compressor back cover. Pull out the high pressure switch by removing the inner snap ring that holds it in place on the compressor's back cover with the snap ring pliers. Put a cap over the open compressor switch port on the back cover and get rid of the rubber seal from the A/C high pressure switch. Clear out any debris inside the switch mounting bore and attach the A/C high pressure switch using a new O-ring from the correct material, together with the oil advised for the R-134a system compressor. Take out the tape or cover from the switch port, insert the high pressure switch and use special pliers to set the internal snap ring in place. Join the wire harness connector to the A/C high pressure switch, bring the vehicle down and reattach the negative battery cable. After that, evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
