2004 Dodge Dakota Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first part of repairing or servicing the coil spring is to support the vehicle, take off the tire and then the wheel. Take off the stabilizer bar link from the lower part of the suspension arm and pull the shock absorber free. Put the Spring Compressor DD-1278 through the vehicle's lower arm, coil spring and upper mount hole, then tighten to compress the spring. After that, unthread the lower ball joint nut and use Remover C-4150A to disconnect the ball joint and knuckle. Disengage the spring tension by turning the nut on the compressor, afterwards get rid of the tool and pull down the lower arm of the suspension to extract the spring. When installing, attach the isolator pad above the coil spring and insert the spring into the lower arm pocket. Put the Spring Compressor DD-1278 back through the lower suspension arm and coil spring upper shaft hole and turn the tool nut to squeeze down the coil spring. Put the lower ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the nut to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.), then seal it with a cotter pin. Use the spring compressor to get to the other side, then attach the stabilizer bar link to the lower suspension arm and tighten the nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs). Put in the shock absorber, then add the wheel and tire and in the end, remove the support so the car can lower.
