How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2005 Dodge Dakota?

The first step in coil spring repair is to take out the shock. After that, install the shock assembly into the Branick 72009 spring removal/installation tool or its equivalent. Press the spring down, then put Wrench, Special Tool 9362, on top of the shock shaft retaining nut. Take an 8 mm socket and put it through the Wrench onto the hex at the end of the shock shaft. Elbow your way, holding the shock shaft and use the Wrench to unthread the nut from the shaft. After this, loosen and remove the upper shock nut, take out the shock and wipe off the shock upper mounting plate. Examine the isolators from both below and above the device. When mounting, first place the lower isolator and afterwards place the upper isolator. Mount the shock inside the coil spring and fasten the upper shock mounting plate afterwards. Use a Wrench, screwed onto your torque wrench, Special Tool 9362, to reach the shock shaft nut and put an 8 mm socket over the Wrench and into the hex on the shock shaft. With the tool in hand, tighten the nut on the shock shaft to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). Fit the shock upper mounting nut, let down the spring slightly and finally lift the shock out of the spring compressor. Last, mount the shock assembly.
