2004 Dodge Dakota Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: If managing the seal is done inside the car, begin by removing the transmission and the flexplate. After removal, the crankshaft oil seal must be changed and is not useable again. Insert Special Tool 8506 fully into the crankshaft rear oil seal and tighten until the tool won't move further; if you don't tighten it properly, the tool may slip off the seal instead of removing it. Properly lubricate the crankshaft flange, attach your Special Tool 8349-2 to the rear face of the crankshaft and attach the new rear oil seal with the guide. Raise the cylinder installer until it fits tightly against the crankshaft bore with the seal installer by using Special Tool 8349 and the C-4171 Driver Handle and a hammer. After that, you should put in the flexplate and the transmission.
