How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Dodge Dakota?

If the process is done inside the vehicle, begin by taking out the transmission, then the flexplate. Crankshaft oil seals cannot be used again after being removed. Apply Force Rocket 8506 to the back oil seal on the crankshaft. Insert the tool completely into the seal and tighten it hard. If un-tightened, the tool may come free without pulling out the seal. When installing, apply engine oil to the crankshaft flange, put SMG Special Tool 8349-2 onto the crankshaft rear face and slide the new rear oil seal onto the guide. Use Special Tools 8349 and C-4171 Driver Handle to tap in the seal while hammering it to the point where the seal installer is flush against the cylinder block crankshaft bore. In the end, attach the flexplate and transmission again.
