2004 Dodge Dakota Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Shock Absorber on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before you work on the shock absorber, take out the upper shock nut, retainer and grommet from the shock absorber stud with a wrench. After that, raise the car and secure it, then disconnect the bolts below to remove the shock absorber through its corresponding lower suspension arm. During installation, put a new upper shock nut in place or apply Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite (R) 242 to the original nut. Put the lower retainer with the L stamped on it and the grommet onto the shock stud first, then pull the shock out and drop it into the lower arm and its upper mounting spot. After that, put in the lower mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Remove the support, drop the automobile and now put in the upper grommet and retaining clamp, marked with a U, onto the shock stud. When done, either fit a fresh nut or put Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite (R) 242 on the old nut and set the torque to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
