Q: How to Service and Repair Engine Mounts for 2WD and 4WD Configurations on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: Before working on the front engine mount, first disconnect the battery's negative cable and take out the viscous fan so that you don't damage anything when lifting the engine. Lift the 2WD, take out the engine oil filter and oil trough, place a jack and wood block at the back of the oil pan to support the engine. Support the front axle with a jack, take out the bolts attaching the side engine mounts and the three bolts that keep the front axle connected to the left engine bracket, then lower the axle. Take out the through bolts and lift the engine so you can remove the left and right mounts with their eight bolts. When working on a 4WD, carry out the original steps and also remove the skid plate and crossmember in front. After you are done with the engine mounts, flush the front axle, fasten the engine bolts, remove the four joining the mounts to the front axle and then remove the three holding the front axle to the side engine bracket. For both kinds of installations, use Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive on the engine block and also on the front axle side of the left engine bracket bolts. With the 2WD model, place the mounts onto the engine block and screw in eight bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Next, add the two through bolts into each mount, lower the engine as the bolts are captured by the frame brackets and tighten up the through bolts to 94 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Replace the oil drain trough, the engine oil filter, drive the vehicle up, join the viscous fan and reattach the negative battery cable. On the front axle, install the two engine mounts, torque the nuts to 94 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) and elevate the front axle. After that, put in the two front through bolts. Attach the two bolts in the top of each plate to the mounting points on the engine and wheel. Lower the engine until your left bracket fits the front axle again. Tighten the four through bolts and the three bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.), then put the oil drain trough, engine oil filter, front crossmember and skid plate back into place, lower the car, fix the viscous fan and attach the negative battery wire.
