Q: How to Service and Repair an Engine Mount for 2WD and 4WD on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step is to unattach the negative cable from the battery and remove the viscous fan to prevent any issues when you service or repair the front engine mount. If your vehicle is 2WD, elevate it, unscrew the drain plug, select a fresh filter, remove the old one, place the jack under the engine and add a block of wood over the oil pan. Use a jack to support the front axle, remove the four bolts attaching the engine mounts to the axle and the three bolts on the left front engine bracket and lower the axle after that. Take away the through bolts, lift the engine so the left and right engine mounts are visible and remove them with the help of eight bolts. Remember the initial steps from 2WD and this time, take away the skid plate and front crossmember. Support the engine and axle, take out the four engine mount bolts, the three bolt connections from the axle to the left engine bracket, then take out the six connecting bolts and lower the axle. For 2WD installation, stick Mopar Lock and Seal Adhesive on the mount-to-engine block and the left engine bracket-to-front axle bolts, fit the eight bolts and right and left side mounts, place the two through bolts in the mounts, drop the engine until the front bracket bolts slot into the engine block, torque front bolts to 54 Nm and fix nuts to 94 Nm. Fix the oil drain trough, new engine oil filter, lift the vehicle, install the viscous fan and hook up the negative battery cable. To install the 4WD, first use the same adhesive, attach the left and right engine mounts to the front axle with nuts tightened to 94 Nm, place the front axle into the frame and secure the through bolts before you lower the engine so brackets align. Place the bolts attaching the front axle to the left engine bracket and the lower through bolts, then loosen each combination twice and torque them to 101 Nm. Then, install the oil drain trough again, put in the engine oil filter, add in the front crossmember, attach the skid plate, lower the car, fix the viscous fan and hook up the negative battery cable.
