2004 Dodge Durango Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Do Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves Affect Valve Seat Reworking and Alignment on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: If the correct angle and seat width are upheld during reworking, worn-out and burned-out valve seats can be saved, but otherwise, the whole cylinder head needs to be changed. You should always use the proper size valve guide pilot when seating stones to ensure the surface fits well. Place dial indicators at either end of the valve seat and ensure total run out is not above 0.051 mm (0.002 in.). Apply a bit of Prussian blue to the valve seat, push the valve (4) or (5) into the cylinder head and, while applying medium pressure, turn the valve until it is fully seated. Should blue be found below the top edge of your valve face, lower the valve seat using a 15 degree stone. For blue below the bottom edge, raise the valve seat using a 65 degree stone. The width of the intake seat, after proper adjustment of the seat, must be 1.75 - 2.36 mm (0.0689 - 0.0928 in.) and the exhaust seat must be 1.71 - 2.32 mm (0.0673 - 0.0911 in.). After you are done with (4) and (5) and the seat, measure the valve springs. They must not exceed 40.74 mm (1.6039 in.) for both intakes and exhausts. The face angle between the valve seat and face should be 44.5 - 45°.
