• Q: How to Service and Repair a Propeller Shaft with a Universal Joint in the Tube Yoke on 2004 Dodge Durango?

  A: To work on a propeller shaft with a cardan joint in the tube yoke, coat the inside of the yoke bores with EP N.L.G.I. Grade 1 or 2 grease. Insert the cross (1) into the yoke so that the lube fitting on top points up, if your cross has one. Cover the cross end with the bearing cap (1) and make it line up with the bore in the yoke, then press the cap into the yoke bore to the point at which it clears the snap ring groove. Do the same procedure for the bearing cap installed on the other end of the assembly. Should the rotating part of the joint feel stuck, gently hit the yoke with a soft mallet to help fix the bearing in place. Then, apply grease inside the lube fitting if you have one.
