2004 Dodge Intrepid Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Air Bag Control Module in a Six-Passenger on 2004 Dodge Intrepid?
A: For six-passenger vehicles, open the hood, unhook the negative battery cable from the remote battery post and let the system capacity discharge for two minutes before replacing the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). Pull the door to the glove box open, release the side tabs and lower it down. Before working on a Concorde, first remove the Instrument Panel. Detach the endcap from the left end of the junction block and using two screws, lift and pull the steering column cover toward the back of the car to open the clips. Next, open the glove box by lowering the door and you'll see the screws on either side of the middle divider. Take off the instrument panel center bezel and in return, the temperature control module, power outlet and traction control switch will also come free. Take off the screws on the Chin bezel, two from each side of the vehicle and then disconnect the connectors at the center bezel. Disconnect the floor bin by unscrewing one fastener and pulling out one push fastener. After revealing the ORC, pull the red Connector Position Assurance (CPA) tab out, push down the locking latch and disconnect the ORC 23-way connector. Remove the two side mounting screws from the driver's side, unscrew the top screw on the driver's side, lift it up and as you slide out the ORC, loosen the passenger side screw if that is needed. Install the ORC pointing forward on the bracket, adding the screws and torqueing to 88 to 124 in lbs. After this, tighten the top screw and add the two side module mounting screws on the driver's side. Attach the ORC 23-way connector and press in the red CPA tab. For the Concorde, the before you begin air bag diagnosis, you should install the Instrument Panel first. First, set the screw and push fastener for the floor bin. Then put in the four Chin bezel screws, reattach the center bezel connectors and add the instrument panel center bezel. Screw the cover over the steering column with the two screws, screw the handle cover to the center end and lastly set the final cover on the junction block. The negative battery cable should not be connected until the air bag system has been diagnosed.
