2004 Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Pressure Hose on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: Start by siphoning out most of the power steering fluid and then raise the car for this repair. Clear away the tube nut and take out the power steering fluid pressure hose from the gear. With left-hand drive vehicles, clip the extra tube off the right side and release the hose tube from the clutch gear. With a right-hand drive car, remove the bolt that holds the pressure hose bracket to the engine. Set the vehicle to a low height, remove the bolt fastening the hose routing bracket to the engine mount dragon head and come loose and remove the tube nut holding the power steering pressure hose. Insert the pump end of the hose underneath the pump, then attach the hose to the right side of the engine and guide the gear end finally towards the power steering gear. Use a lint-free towel to wipe the ends of the power steering hose and pump, change out the old O-ring for a new one and add clean power steering fluid to the O-ring to lubricate it. Slip the power steering pressure hose over the end of the pump outlet considering the fitting is on the pump's bottom, screw on the nylon tube at the pump outlet and set the torque to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Fit the hose onto the hose routing bracket, following the instructions and join the bracket to the engine mount dragon head in addition to the ground strap, adjusting the screw tightness to 12 Nm or 105 inch lbs. Place the car back in the air, so the steering fluid lines don't come into contact with the exhaust and other things that could damage them. For vehicles that turn the steering wheel on the right, put the pressure hose routing clamp in place on the engine, make sure it's secure and tighten it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Rinse off the open hose end and the power steering gear port, install a new O-ring in place of the used one and cover both with clean sampling fluid. Gently lift the car with help from a friend or colleague, then put the fluid pressure hose onto the port on the power steering gear and begin threading the nut into the gear, but do not over-tighten it either. If your vehicle is left-hand drive, hold the clamp on the right side and add the pressure hose tube, before closing the clamp. Twist the pressure hose tube nut on the gear until you reach a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.), lower the vehicle, run the initial operation procedure on the pump and look for leaks at every connection.
