2005 Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: First, drain most of the fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir and then lift the car to get started. With a wrench or pliers, take away the clamp holding the return hose shut and slide the hose off from the tube. Next, adjusted the height of the car, opened the clamp securing the hose and gently take the hose off the reservoir. After that, detach the bolt holding the hose routing bracket to the engine mount dragon head and slide the hose out. Before you install the hose, slide a hose clamp over the pump hose so the clamp will clear the reservoir fitting once the hose is put in place. Set the hose into the engine compartment from the top, join the pump end to the reservoir fitting and continue to route the hose along the right side of the engine down behind it to the gear. Enlarge the hose clamp and place it over the fitting on the fluid reservoir, pushing it past the bead made in the fitting. Install the hose at the hose routing bracket and then position it properly, next attach the bracket to the engine mount dragon head over the hose and also fix the ground strap in the same location. Tighten the screw here to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Lift the vehicle back up so that the power steering hoses are kept from the exhaust system, other car parts and any objects that could damage them. Use a lint-free rag to wipe clean the exposed end of the power steering hose and the power steering fluid cooler tube and then fit a hose clamp to the end of the hose, check that it doesn't obstruct the fitting on the cooler. Push the hose all the way to the end of the cooler tubing, then slip the hose clamp so that it is located past the bead in the cooler tube. Lower the vehicle, run the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure and inspect each hose for leaks as they may not break until later on.
