2003 Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Empty out as much fluid as you can from the power steering reservoir before raising the vehicle to start service. Detach the clamp on the return hose where it is linked to the power steering cooler tube and pull the hose off the tube. Reduce the lift on the vehicle and take out the hose clamp holding the return hose onto the power steering fluid reservoir, pulling the hose away. From there, remove the bolt holding the hose routing bracket to the engine mount dragon head and pull the hose from the bracket. Slide a hose clamp on the pump end of the hose, so it can clear the fitting on the power steering fluid reservoir once the hose is fitted. Starting at the top of the engine compartment, fit the pump end's fitting into the power steering pump fluid reservoir and continue along the right side, guiding the rest down behind the engine, joining it at the power steering gear. Widen the hose clamp and slide it onto the fitting of the fluid reservoir, making sure it goes past the bead in the fitting. Place the hose into the bracket, line up the opening, install the bracket on the engine mount dragon head and the ground strap and tighten the screw until it reads 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Lift the car a second time, making sure the power steering fluid lines aren't touching the exhaust or any parts that could damage them. Clean the open end of the power steering hose and the cooler tube with a soft, clean towel and attach a hose clamp to the hose, making sure the clamp doesn't interfere with the fitting on the cooler. Slide the hose onto the cooler tube, then place the hose clamp past the bead on the tube. Bring the vehicle down, go through the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation task and inspect each hose for leaks.
