2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ambient Temperature Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service the Ambient Temperature Sensor in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before handling the ambient temperature sensor, unconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. The ambient temperature sensor is found on the right side of the radiator opening on the headlamp mounting module, behind the grille. Take off the radiator grille fascia and slide in from the position where the headlamps are attached. Take out the connector pin of the ambient temperature sensor from the vehicle's wire harness connector receptacle. Unscrew the one fastener holding the ambient temperature sensor bracket to the headlamp mounting module and remove the sensor after that. Position the ambient temperature sensor onto the headlamp mounting module and add one screw to hold the bracket in place, tightening it until you reach 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Now, connect the wire harness connector to the ambient temperature sensor connector, secure the radiator grille fascia and put it into the headlamp mounting module and lastly reattach the battery negative cable.
