  • Q: How to Replace the Blend Door Actuator with Manual or Automatic Zone Control (AZC) on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
    A: Replacing the blend door actuator on all models equipped with either manual or Automatic Zone Control (AZC) starts with turning off the air bags by removing and isolating the battery negative cable. Always wait two minutes afterward to ensure the system's capacitor discharges. Access to the actuator is possible by looking at the HVAC housing from the inside of the car, directly in front of and to the right of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Removing the glove box door plus both panels at the bottom of the I/P glove box should be your first step. After that, unplug the wire harness from the blend door actuator, remove the two screws attached to the HVAC housing and remove the actuator. Attach the new blend door actuator to the HVAC housing, tighten the two mounting screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), connect the wire harness back, put everything on the glove box and then reattach the battery's negative cable.
