2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Evaporator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Evaporator on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Turn off the air bag system in cars that have it by removing the battery negative cable and letting it discharge for two minutes, before servicing or repairing the evaporator core. Lift the metal case off of the evaporator coil and bend it out of the way for access to the coil. As you are installing, don't let the refrigerant tubing have any sharp bends or kinks, as it could lower your air conditioning's cooling capacity; the hose should not bend less than 10 times its diameter and the system's flexible lines should be at least 3 inches (80 millimeters) from the exhaust manifold. Ensuring all refrigerant system links are airtight, inspect all flexible refrigerant tubes at least once per year for leaks. Inside the HVAC housing, install the evaporator coil beneath the bellows, replacing the foam insulator and then assemble it and bolt it into the vehicle. In case the evaporator is replaced, put 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil into the refrigerant system.
