2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Evaporator on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step in working on the evaporator core is to first remove the HVAC housing. Take apart the HVAC housing if this helps you reach the A/C evaporator. Separate the rubber cover and take out the coiled A/C evaporator and the attached insulator from the bottom area. If the seal in the lower part of the HVAC casing is damaged, disconnect it and attach another one. In addition, if the insulator on the evaporator is broken or warped, remove it and put in a replacement. At installation, if you install a new front evaporator, add 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the air conditioning system with the oil suggested for the A/C compressor in the vehicle. If taking out the evaporator, install the insulator over it, plus replace any broken or bent seals. If you take it out, insert the rubber seal into the lower half of the HVAC housing and replace it should it look deformed or damaged. Place the evaporator lower in the HVAC housing with the drain free from obstructions and use the insulation and rubber seal. Next, join the HVAC housing and torque it onto the unit.
