2004 Jeep Liberty Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Dimmer Switch on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first thing to do for the combination switch is decouple and disconnect the battery negative cable from vehicles with air bags to turn off the air bag system, then wait for about two minutes as the capacitor discharges. Initially, set the tilt steering column as far lowered as it will go if that is an option for your car. Open the two screws under the lower shroud to separate it from the upper shroud, then press in both sides of the upper shroud to release the snaps. Take the two harness units out of the engine compartment and remove the wires from the switch at the instrument panel. Rock the switch back and forth to unlock it from inside the steering column lock. When you are starting the installation, check that the stalk on the left is in neutral and that the turn signal cancel actuator is pulled back. Fit the switch onto the steering column, plug all the wire harness connectors back in and confirm that all the alignment posts and their locator tabs are in place. Put the upper and lower shrouds back in place, fit the snap features together and press down with your hands. Attach the two screws and tighten them to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), fold the tilt steering column if you have one and then reconnect the battery's negative cable.
