2004 Jeep Liberty Hazard Warning Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Replace a Hazard Warning Switch with Airbags on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, disable the supplemental restraint system that has air bags by unhooking and isolating the battery negative cable and after two minutes wait for the capacitor to drain. Undo the top screw at the hazard switch and then remove the radio inside the instrument panel. Using both hands, reach through the radio opening and up inside the vehicle to reach the two latch tabs. Pull down and back on the tabs until the switch disengages. Press the hazard switch button, located through the button opening in the dash, to unpin the alignment rod on the instrument panel trim, then unplug the wire harness connector from the switch connector and remove the hazard switch through the radio opening. You should set the hazard switch below the opening for the radio panel and reconnect its wiring harness. Be sure to set the hazard switch so that the button is lined up with the open brackets and catches the alignment pins inside the stanchions. Push the hazard switch upward to lock the latch pins into place on the trim under the instrument panel and then tighten the screw to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Then, put back the radio into the instrument panel and plug in the battery negative cable.
