2005 Jeep Liberty Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Dimmer Switch on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Start by disconnecting the battery negative cable to turn off the supplemental restraint system, wait two minutes and then you can work on the switch. If your steering column tilts, pull it down to its lowest setting and release the tilt by setting the lever to the front of the seat. Open the steering wheel a bit, find the screws below the column and unscrew them both. Then, press in on the upper shroud on either side to release its grip and remove both shroud parts from under the steering wheel. Separate both wire harness connectors from the back of the multi function switch housing and carefully pull the switch up to unplug it from the steering column lock housing. Before you fit the new switch, check that the left control stalk is in its neutral turn signal position and the turn signal cancel actuator is pulled back. Attach the multi-function switch to the steering column, reconnect the various wire harness connections and see that all alignment posts and locator tabs fit correctly in the lock housing. Pull the upper and lower shroud halves together, then squeeze them together so the snap features catch and hold them in place. Lift the tilt steering column if necessary, install the two screws to a torque of 2 N.m (20 in.lbs.), attach the tilt lever and connect the battery negative cable.
