Q: How to Remove and Install an Intake Manifold on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: You should first disconnect the battery's negative cable and then take out the connector on the inlet air temperature sensor to remove the upper intake manifold. After that, take out the air intake tube from the throttle body and remove the upper air cleaner housing. Remove the connectors from the TPS, IAC and MAP sensor. In addition, disconnect the vacuum line for the purge solenoid and the PCV valve. Disconnect the throttle, speed control and transaxle control cables from the throttle lever and its bracket and next remove the EGR tube and the upper manifold support bracket bolt. Withdraw the engine oil dipstick and all the bolts of the upper intake manifold and place a protection on the manifold to stop foreign materials from reaching inside the engine. Like before, first disconnect the negative battery cable and the inlet air temperature sensor, then take off the air intake tube and upper air cleaner housing for the lower intake manifold to be removed. Remove the vacuum lines from the TPS, IAC motor and MAP sensor and disconnect the connectors from these components just as you did before. Work through the 1990 Cavalier fuel system pressure release process, remove the fuel line, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor/fuel injector wire harness connector and the fuel injector harness. Fasteners are removed from the intake manifold to the cylinder head and the manifold comes off. You should then cover any openings so nothing goes inside. After, look for any flat spots or cracks in the intake manifold. With a new gasket on the cylinder head, fit the lower manifold and screw in all the bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) in the correctly ordered sequence until all bolts meet the spec. Attach the lower intake manifold support bracket bolts, get the fuel line set up, plant the coolant temperature sensor/fuel injector wiring harness, add the radiator upper and heater supply hoses and then connect the upper intake manifold. Give clean the surfaces to be sealed, put a 1.5 mm (0.060 in.) line of Mopar Gasket Maker round the opening on the lower intake manifold runners and join the upper plenum with the specified tightness. Fit in the lower half of the engine oil dipstick along with the upper bolt and bracket on the intake, the EGR tube and the throttle cables. Link the vacuum tubes for the power brake booster, LDP EGR transducer, speed control vacuum reservoir, purge solenoid and PCV valve and connect the electric ports for the MAP sensor, TPS and IAC motor. After that, mount the air cleaner upper housing and install the air intake tube at the throttle body. Plug the inlet air sensor cable and then attach the negative cable to the battery.
